Shute, Waston, and Archibald pick up wins at the Ron Little Memorial
-Story by Josh Reynolds
What started out a warm, muggy afternoon at Stuart Speedway ended with lightning, thunder and people rushing to get out of the rain. In the process, Todd Shute, John Watson, and David Archibald picked up feature wins at the 11th annual Ron Little Memorial. Ron passed away at the track following a feature race in 1999. He was a very popular and well known modified racer and is missed by many to this day.
The Hobby Stocks were first up in the features with Richard Yaw II starting on the pole. Danny Watson would lead the first lap with Yaw taking over the next three. 7th starting John Watson would then battle with Yaw for the next two laps before taking over for good. Watson would go on to win, but not without some competition. For seven laps Brandon Pruitt fought for the lead with Watson before getting a flat tire. For the last 3 laps it would be Devin Smith battling for the lead only to flatten a tire as well. It was an emotional win for Watson as his aunt passed away just last Wednesday. Following Watson at the finish was Larry Embrey, Nyle Godwin, Randy Anderson, and from 23rd on the grid Curt Ganoe came up to 5th spot. Watson and Godwin had their engines claimed by Smith and Heath Anderson, respectively, and Randy Anderson had his carburetor claimed by Solomon Bennett.
Next up, with weather already threatening, was the Modified feature. Josh Gilman would be the pole sitter with Shute alongside. Once the green flag flew so did Shute. He never looked back, leading every one of the twenty laps to pick up the $1000 feature win and qualify himself for the IMCA Supernationals All Star Invitational. Following him to the checkers was Josh Gilman, Luke Wanninger, and a nice run from 10th for Randy Havlik.
The Sport Compacts would be next with David Archibald on the pole. He also would lead all of the laps to pick up the checkered flag. He was followed up by Garrett Nelson, Dan Cleaver, and Mike Nehring. The Sport Mods, Stock Cars and Dwarf Cars would have to pack it up for next week as lightning took over the event for the night.
