May, Schlicht, and Blessington Win Make Up RLM Features and Nelson, Masolini, Watson, Pruitt, Blessington, and Shute Take Home the Hardware on Zowie Ann Kile's Night at the Racetrack.

Stuart, Iowa (June 6) - On a warm, lazy Sunday afternoon the action was fast and furious at Stuart Speedway. Jimmy May, David Schlicht and Brian Blessington were all first time winners at the track this year in the made-up Ron Little Memorial features. In regular night action Mike Pruitt picked up his first win of the season, Garrett Nelson, Dusty Masolini, John Watson and Brian Blessington netted their second wins of the year, and Todd Shute grabbed his third win in the young season. Watson, Blessington and Shute were repeat winners from last weeks show.
This night was a special one for young Zowie Ann Kile. Zowie was just recently released from St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in Memphis, TN after her second battle with AML Leukemia. Zowies good friend, country singer Shane Morgan, was on hand to sign autographs and sing the national anthem. Zowie received a ride in Brandon Pruitts Hobby Stock and in Michael "Wombat" Walrods Stock Car before their respective features. Donations were also taken for the medical bills Zowies family has incurred and $1700 was raised to donate to the family! Thanks goes out to each and every person who donated!
Starting off the racing for the evening would be the three make-up features from the rained-out Ron Little Memorial. The Dwarf Cars would take to the track first with Jimmy May on the pole. After a first lap melee in turn one, May would take control and lead all ten laps to pick up the win. Dusty Masolini, Josh May, Johnny Mordock and Colby Oberembt would round out the top five.
Next up would be the Stock Cars with veteren driver Brian Blessington starting on the pole. Blessington led the first eight laps, and that's when the race started. Sixth starting Tim Bengard caught Blessington and would lead the next three laps, forcing Blessington to choose a lower line. The move payed off well as Blessington would overtake Bengard to lead the last nine laps to pick up the feature win. Hot on his heels was Bengard, followed by Cory Bushnell, Jeremy Gettler and Bryan Snell.
The Sportmods took the track for their fifteen lap feature with Jamie Schirm on the pole. Schirm would lead the first three laps before developing a bad push in his race car. That opened the door for fifth starting David Schlicht, who would lead the next twelve laps en route to the feature win. He didn't get the trophy easily as first Geoff Olson and then Jeremy Embrey fought hard for the lead. Schlicht prevailed, giving him the very emotional win. Schlicht grew up across the street from Ron Little and helped him on his race cars at home and at the track. Ron was a father figure for David, so to say the win was emotional is most likely a bit of an understatement. Good job David!
Following the make-up features would be a draw/re-draw special for all classes. Aforementioned country singer Shane Morgan donated money to increase the purses. After heat races the Dwarf cars took the track for their feature race for the night with Josh May in the pole position. It would be Dusty Masolini first to lead, however, and he would be the first to see the checkered flag as well, leading all ten laps to snag the win. Jimmy May crossed second followed by Josh May, Johnny Mordock and Angelo Montgomery.
Sport Compacts were up next with Jacob Peters from Des Moines the polesitter. Peters led the first lap but was overtaken on lap two by Garrett Nelson. Nelson cruised the last nine laps to grab the win. Jamie Mahlberg, Peters, Cory Kyle and Dan Cleaver chased Nelson to the flagstand. After the race Peters was disqualified for an illegal helmet and lack of racing shoes.
The biggest field of drivers Stuart Speedway has seen so far this year would take to the clay next. As the sun was setting, twenty six Hobby Stocks took the green flag with last weeks feature winner getting the pole position in the re-draw. John Watson led the field around for fifteen laps, the first two-thirds of the race with hometown favorite Brandon Pruitt trying his hardest to pass him. These two also put on quite the show in the heat races with Pruitt winning by a nose. Pruitt would fall back towards the end of the feature with mechanical problems. Flagman Jim Wiechman waved the checkered flag over Watson for the second week in a row. Trying to run down Watson was tenth starting Nyle Godwin, Curt Ganoe, and finishing fourth and fifth were Randy and Larry Embrey.
The Sport Mods took on the high banks next, and with David Schlicht already winning a feature on the evening, things were looking good for a repeat performance. Outside row one starter Mike Pruitt had other ideas, however, and proceeded to lead all fifteen laps to gather the win. Besides his king of the hill win a few weeks ago this was Pruitts first win since picking up the IMCA Supernationals win last September. Chasing Pruitt to the end was Schlicht, followed by Jeremy Embrey, and brothers Clinton and Ty Luellen.
Thirteen Stock Cars took the green flag with veteren Steve Campbell in the number one spot. Jeremy Gettler would be the car to beat from outside row one, leading all twenty laps. However, in post-race tech Gettler was disqualified for an illegal air cleaner. That would give the win to Brian Blessington. Tim Bengard came from seventh starting spot to second, followed by ninth starting Tim Feltner. Kenny Hansen finished in fourth and Cory Bushnell fifth.
Last on the bill for the evening would be the Modifieds with Todd Shute on the pole. After leading all twenty laps last week, Shutes streak of consecutive laps led now stands at forty, as he led every one of the twenty laps yet again in picking up the feature win. After an early flat tire, Josh Gilman would rebound to finish second with Randy Havlik, Rex Parkison and Jake George rounding out the top five.
Next week is Adair Lumber Night at the races with regular point racing for Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Sport Compacts and Dwarf Cars. Hope to see you there.
