Anderson Wins by a Nose

Stuart, IA (June 30) – Mother Nature smiled down on Stuart Speedway with a perfect night of weather, and the only thing better than the weather was the racing! Winners on Schneider Excavating Night at the races were Josh May, Jordan Androy, Jamie Schirm, Ty Luellen, Shannon Anderson, Josh Gilman and Cory Sauerman.
First up after heat races was the MADCRA Mod Lites with Rick Taylor and Josh May on the front row. May took the lead right away with Mike Morrill and Travis Stensland in tow. Charlie Brown moved past Stensland for third on lap four with May and Morrill still out front. A lap six debris caution would be the only yellow on the night and bunched the cars, giving Morrill and Brown a shot at May and the win. May took off like a rocket on the restart and never looked back in taking the win, his third of the year in as many starts. Morrill ended in second with Brown third, Randy Bryan fourth and Dusty Masolini fifth. Brown and Morrill were the heat race winners.
IMCA Sport Compacts were up next with Jodie Maben and Logan Richards on the front row.  Fourth starting Jordan Androy made his way to the front on lap one over Richards with brother Deavon Richards taking over the runner up spot on lap two. Shawn Cooney patiently made his way to third and eventually second on lap five and set out to track down Androy. That was not to be as Androy stayed strong at the front and went on to his first win at the Speedway. Cooney finished second with D. Richards third, Maben fourth and L. Richards fifth. Maben was the heat race winner.
Next up was the IMCA Stock Cars with Derrick Rohe and Jamie Schirm setting the pace. Schirm took the top spot right away with Bryan Snell and Rohe fighting for second place. A lap eight debris caution slowed the field and gave everyone one last shot at Schirm. Rohe held onto second with Joe Zadina and Jeff Anderson fighting it out for third, but no one had anything for Schirm as he went on to the win, his first at the track this year. Rohe finished in second with Zadina third, Anderson fourth and Marcus Fagan fifth. Zadina and Schirm were the heat race winners.
IMCA Hobby Stocks came out next with Jason Kohl and Gina Greubel on the front row. Kohl took the lead with Chad LeGere and Jamie Songer close behind. Andrew Burg and Brandon Pruitt got together on lap four to bring out the yellow with Kohl still holding the top spot. Two more quick yellows on laps seven and eight brought Shannon Anderson up to the back bumper of Kohl, setting up a shootout to the finish. Kohl stayed true to the top lane with Anderson moving up beside and even in front for a bit, but Kohl would keep the momentum on the top and lead each time at the line. As the two took the white flag, Anderson slid up in front of Kohl, causing the #27 to go low and under Anderson going into turn three. As the two came into turn four, Kohl slid up the track just enough to allow Anderson to get underneath as they came to the checkered flag. The two cars had contact and as they crossed the line the win would go to Anderson by less than a foot! The win was Anderson’s fifth in six starts this year. Kohl finished a disappointing second with Austin Luellen third, Pruitt fourth after restarting in the back and Songer fifth. Jeff Fink and Pruitt were the heat race winners.
Colby Oberembt and Arie Schouten brought out the IMCA Northern Sportmods next with Oberembt leading lap one. Cole Ferguson took over at the front on lap two with Oberembt second and Clint Luellen third. Luellen moved past Oberembt on lap three and got under Ferguson, but the two leaders made contact with Luellen spinning to the infield. Ferguson continued to lead with Ty Luellen moving into second on lap six. Oberembt made contact with T. Luellen multiple times with Luellen eventually clearing and setting out for Ferguson. Luellen tracked down the #3F and moved into the lead on lap ten and cruised on to the win, his third of the season. Ferguson finished second with Jerry Hinton third, Oberembt fourth and Matt Webb fifth. Ty and Clint Luellen were the heat race winners.
IMCA Modifieds came out next with Ron Bash and Ed Seibert on the front row. Fourth starting Rex Parkison took the lead on lap one with Bash second. Al Wolfgram took second for two laps until Jimmy Gustin powered by on lap four. Two laps later Gustin shot by Parkison to take the lead at the line just before a caution came out for debris. Two more quick cautions on lap eight were the last things to slow this race and set up a dash to the checkered flag between two heavy hitters, Gustin and Josh Gilman. The last ten laps these two put on a clinic on how to drive extremely hard but yet extremely clean. Gilman would pull alongside Gustin out of the corner, but lap after lap Gustin would keep the momentum off of the high side and retain the lead. As the race wore down, Gilman was gaining each lap until finally pulling off the pass on lap nineteen. Gustin had one more shot as the white flag came out, but it was not to be as Gilman took the win, his first of the year. Gustin finished in second with Jason Murray third, Tony Cox fourth and Parkison fifth. Gustin and Luke Wanninger were the heat race winners.
Last but not least the 6 Cylinder FWD’s took to the track with Daniel Duranceau and Cory Sauerman on the front row. Sauerman took the lead on lap one with Andy Forcht moving out front for lap two. Just as he took the lead, a mechanical failure ended Forcht’s night as he pulled off the track. This cleared the way for Sauerman as he cruised to the win, his first of the season. Deavon Richards, Nolan Parker and Forcht completed the top four and Sauerman made it a clean sweep with the heat race win.
We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track for night six of the season. Next week is Jorgensen Custom Hay Services Night at the Races. This will be a carbon copy of last week with the Mod Lites returning. Also, there are no number fees for the rest of the season at Stuart so tell your friends and bring a car for some great side by side racing! See you then!
