Fagan and Ferguson Take Modified Features

-Josh Reynolds
Stuart, IA (July 20) – Finally Mother Nature took it easy on Central Iowa on a Sunday afternoon, and the drivers at Stuart Speedway provided a great night of racing for all to see! Clint Luellen, Marcus Fagan, Korbin Nourse and Shannon Anderson were the winners of the makeup features from July 6th, and Marcus Fagan, Randy Walker, Clint Luellen, Cole Ferguson, Andy Forcht and Shannon Anderson were the winners on Avey Sanitation Night at the Races.
We started the night with the makeup features from July 6th with the IMCA Northern SportMods coming onto the speedway. Kody Havens and Chase Rudolf led the field to green with Havens leading lap one. Havens would continue to lead through a couple of cautions, but the 3L of Clint Luellen was lurking in the shadows. After a restart on lap four, Luellen would make the pass for the lead on lap five. Havens battled hard with Matt Webb for second, and Webb would finally take second on lap twelve. Luellen went on to take the win over Webb in second, Rudolf third, Kendall Davis fourth and Colton Nelson fifth.
Next up would be the IMCA Modifieds with Rex Parkison and Marcus Fagan on the front row. Parkison would lead lap one with Fagan taking over the point on lap two. Josh Gilman moved into second on lap three and set out to chase down Fagan. After a caution on lap six Nick Roberts passed Gilman for second as Fagan continued to lead. Gilman faded and would leave the race with a flat tire, and that left Fagan, Roberts, Cole Ferguson and Brandon Pruitt to battle it out for the win. Fagan stayed strong and went on to pick up the win, his first in the Modified division. Roberts, Ferguson and Pruitt rounded out the all-rookie top four with Rex Parkison fifth.
Korbin Nourse and Dean Richards brought the Outlaw FWD’s to green with Richards leading lap one. Nourse took the lead on lap two and went on to the easy win. Richards was second with Randy Walker third and Cody Cleghorn fourth.
IMCA Hobby Stocks ended the makeup features with Austin Luellen and Buck Schafroth on the front row. Luellen led the first lap with Shannon Anderson close behind. After a quick yellow Anderson made the pass on Luellen for the lead on lap two. Anderson would lead it all the way and take the win with Luellen second, Mike Pruitt third, Andrew Burg fourth and Jamie Schirm fifth.
Once heat races were ran for the regular night of racing the IMCA Stock Cars were first up with Andrew Knode and Scott Bailey on the front row. Chris Pruitt would lead lap one with Bailey and Brian Blessington close behind. After a caution on lap five Marcus Fagan moved up beside Pruitt and took the lead on lap six with Blessington moving into second on lap eight. Fagan, Blessington and Pruitt would stay 1-2-3 all the way to the end with Fagan getting his second win of the night in different classes! Blessington and Pruitt finished second and third with Jeff Anderson fourth and Terry Pruitt fifth. Nyle Godwin and Chris Pruitt were the heat race winners.
IMCA Sport Compacts were up next with Curtis Miller and Randy Walker leading the field to green. Walker took control and never looked back in taking the win. Cody Cleghorn finished second, Dean Richards third and Miller fourth. Cleghorn was the heat race winner.
Kody Havens and Chase Rudolf brought up the IMCA Northern SportMods next with Havens leading Rudolf on lap one. Makeup feature winner Clint Luellen became a player on lap three, moving past Rudolf into second and setting out to run down Havens. A rash of cautions followed, but once they got everything settled, it was Havens leading with what appeared to be a broken rear end. Luellen took advantage and made the pass for the lead on lap eight. Luellen would go on to take his second win of the night with Havens limping along for a second place finish. Rudolf nailed down third for the second time of the night with Brandon Williams and Matt Webb rounding out the top five. Luellen and Havens were the heat race winners.
IMCA Modifieds came out next with Scott Bash and Marcus Fagan on the front row. Fagan led lap one and was looking toward a clean sweep of the night in both the Modifieds and the Stock Cars. Cole Ferguson shot past Fagan on lap two and into the lead just before a caution waved for Luke Wanninger. Once the cars got going it was Ferguson leading Nick Roberts, Fagan and Josh Gilman. Roberts and Fagan swapped positions a few times as Ferguson continued to lead. Ferguson would go on to his first Modified win at Stuart Speedway with Roberts finishing second. Gilman nipped Fagan by inches at the line for third and Todd VanEaton finished fifth in his first visit to the track this season. Roberts and Wanninger were the heat race winners.
Korbin Nourse and Cody Cleghorn brought out the Outlaw FWD’s next for their feature and Nourse looked to win again as he led the first four laps. Andy Forcht, making his return to the track, blew past Nourse on lap five and went on to take the win. Randy Walker finished second with Nourse third, Ashley Ramer fourth and Dean Richards fifth. Forcht was also the heat race winner.
IMCA Hobby Stocks were our last of ten features for the night with Andy Hick and Derek Hodges on the front row. Hick led the first two laps, but as fast as they started they came to a screaming halt as the 56 of Jamie Schirm rolled in turn three. Schirm was ok, but would be done for the night. When the race started back up, Hick continued to lead with Shannon Anderson and Eric Stanton fighting for second. Anderson would take that position and set out for the lead, which he would take on lap six. John Watson moved into second on lap seven in his first visit to the track this season, and tried his best to track down Anderson. A lap ten caution for debris was the chance Watson needed, but Anderson was too strong and went on to take his second win of the night. Watson finished second with Stanton third, Buck Schafroth fourth and Austin Luellen fifth. Mike Pruitt, Andrew Burg and Anderson were the heat race winners.
We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track at our seventh event of the year. Next week will be the John Wetzel Memorial. There are all kinds of extras in this race for the IMCA Hobby Stocks. It will be a draw/redraw show for Hobby Stocks with the winner possibly taking home $2150!!! Check out our website at www.stuartspeedway.net for more information. See you then!
