Kohl Notches First Win at Stuart
Story by Josh Reynolds
Stuart, IA (July 31) – It seems all I can open with lately is how hot the weather is! That did not change on this Sunday with temps of 95+ and heat indexes of over 105 degrees, but despite the heat fans and drivers braved the conditions for some great racing at Stuart Speedway! Jodie Maben, Michael Pruitt, Jeremy Gettler, Jim Britton, Jason Kohl and Randy Havlik were the feature winners on Sportsman’s Warehouse Night at the Races.
To start off the evening Tim Allen mentioned our flagman, Bob Moses, during the invocation. Bob was at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Friday when he suffered a heart attack. He is in the hospital and will be OK, but not able to take to the flagstand on this night. All of us at Stuart Speedway offer best wishes to Bob and Bonnie for a speedy recovery and we hope to see them back soon.
Point leader Jordan Peters and Jodie Maben brought out the IMCA Sport Compacts for the first feature of the night. Flagman Toby Kruse waved the green flag and Maben made quick work of the field as he led all the way to pick up the win. Peters came home second, David Sciranko third and heat race winner Jacob Peters finished in fourth.
IMCA Sportmods came out next with Austin Paul and Cole Ferguson on the front row. Paul would lead the first three laps when point leader Michael Pruitt slid by to take over the top spot. When the caution flag flew on lap eight the field was closed up for the last time and gave them one last shot at Pruitt. The #92P Penatrator Chassis would not be denied as he sailed to the feature win. Clinton Luellen brought home a second place finish with Jerry Hinton third, Nick Roberts fourth and Casey Gruebel fifth. Hinton and Ferguson were the heat race winners.
Trenton Jeanes and Michael Walrod paced the IMCA Stock Cars, and after a couple of quick cautions Bob Daniels would lead the first two laps. Thirteenth starting Jeremy Gettler took over on lap three and led until a lap eight red flag for Kevin Godwin flying over the wall in turn two. Once the green flag waved again Gettler sailed off into the sunset to pick up the win. After a first lap spin Brian Blessington put on a driving clinic to finish in the runner-up position with point leader Marcus Fagan third, Daniels fourth and Cory Bushnell fifth. Blessington and Daniels were the heat race winners.
6 Cylinder FWD’s were up next with Jodie Maben and Andy Forcht leading the field to green. Jeff Kruse led through lap five when mechanical failure ended his night. Forcht took over the top spot for one lap until point leader Jim Britton moved past for the lead and the win. Maben came home second with Forcht in third, Jacob Peters fourth and Jake Coughennower fifth. Forcht was the heat race winner.
Nathan Lange and Nyle Godwin brought the IMCA Hobby Stocks to the green flag with Godwin leading lap number one. Jason Kohl took over the top spot and he and Godwin were side by side for the next eight laps with Kohl just nosing out Godwin at the line each lap. Godwin went for a spin on lap twelve, ending his chance at the win and allowing Kohl to cruise to the win. This was his first win at Stuart and he won his first ever feature at Shelby County Speedway in Harlan just a few weeks earlier. Congrats Jason! Austin Luellen finished in second with Lange third, point leader Brandon Pruitt fourth and Godwin fifth. Lange was the heat race winner.
IMCA Modifieds were the last class on the track with Tony Hilgenberg and Rex Parkison on the front row after original row one starters Ed Seibert and Devon Havlik chose to go to the tail. Parkison led the first lap until point leader Randy Havlik moved past for the top spot on lap two. Three yellow flags would not slow R. Havlik down as he would lead all the way to take the double checkered flag from Toby Kruse. Alison Quick came in second with Kent Croskey third, Josh Gilman fourth and Parkison fifth. Scott Bash and R.Havlik were the heat race winners.
Thanks to all of the drivers and fans who came out and supported the track on yet another warm Sunday evening. Please join us next week for the Ganoe Excavating Hobby Stock Special. Higher payout for the Hobby Stocks plus a draw-redraw format should lead to some exciting racing!
