Luellen Takes Home the Cash

Stuart, IA (August 18) – Awesome side by side racing and unbelievable weather highlighted lucky night number thirteen on the season at Stuart Speedway! Shawn Cooney, Josh Gilman, Ty Luellen, Shannon Anderson, Andy Forcht and Brian Blessington were the big winners on Hawkeye Auto Salvage Night at the Races.
IMCA Sport Compacts were up first with Brad Egenberger and Shawn Cooney on the front row. Just like when he won the heat, Cooney wasted no time in taking the lead and running away from the field to pick up his seventh win of the season. Jordan Androy took second, Egenberger was third and Logan Richards finished fourth.
Ed Seibert and Ron Bash brought out the IMCA Modifieds next for their twenty lap feature. Bash led lap one with a quick yellow for Tony Hilgenberg and Todd VanEaton slowing the field. Jason Murray led lap two with yet another caution waving, this time for Jesse Sobbing finding the wall in turn one. Once the green flew again it was Josh Gilman heading up the pack with Murray and Luke Wanninger in tow. Wanninger made it past Murray on lap ten and set out after Gilman, but there was little competition for the ‪#‎83G‬ on this night as Gilman went on to his third win of the year. Wanninger was second with Murray third, Rex Parkison fourth and VanEaton fifth in his first ever visit to the speedway. Gilman and Wanninger were the heat race winners.
IMCA Northern SportMods came out next with Kody Havens and Arie Schouten on the front row. Havens led the first three laps until Ty Luellen moved by on lap four. Nick Roberts stayed close to Luellen through a lap seven caution for debris which bunched the field for the last time. Luellen had a great restart and set sail to pick up his fifth win of the year. Roberts finished in second with Cole Ferguson third, Clinton Luellen fourth and Havens fifth. Ferguson and Roberts were the heat race winners.
Cory Adams and Riley Songer led the IMCA Hobby Stocks to green next with Adams leading lap one. Songer went for a wild ride on the back stretch to bring out the caution before the start of lap two. When the cars took the green it was Shannon Anderson taking over the lead from his eighth starting spot. Adams and Jamie Songer put on a good battle for second, but it was Brandon Pruitt putting on a show for the crowd! After taking a few weeks off to fix severe damage on his car, Pruitt showed no rust in getting to second place on lap eleven. The ‪#‎10B‬ set out to chase down Anderson, but it was not to be as the #78 took home his ninth win of the season. This was Anderson’s 199th win in his IMCA Hobby Stock Career, and no doubt will cross the 200 win mark soon. Anderson is already the IMCA Hobby Stock career win leader, so any future wins add to the all-time mark. Pruitt finished in second with Adams third, Austin Luellen fourth and J. Songer fifth. Luellen and J. Songer were the heat race winners. After the race J. Songer claimed the shocks of Adams and Adams sold.
6 Cylinder FWD’s came out next with Cory Sauerman and Andy Forcht on the front row. Forcht took the lead right away and never looked back in picking up his seventh win of the season. Sauerman was second with Dean Richards third and Jordan Androy fourth. Sauerman was the heat race winner.
Last up for feature races would be the IMCA Stock Cars with Bryan Snell and Nyle Godwin leading the pack to green. Snell led early with Godwin hot on his heels. Brian Blessington moved into second on lap three just before a caution came out for a tangle between Doug Seidl and Eric Rempel. When the green flew, Snell led one more lap until Blessington moved by on lap five. Blessington wouldn’t be challenged and sailed to his third win of the season. Snell finished in second with Godwin third, Jamie Schirm fourth and Jeff Anderson fifth. Godwin and Chris Pruitt were the heat race winners. After the race Jeff Joldersma claimed the shocks of Godwin and Godwin sold.
The last event for the evening was a King of the Hill for IMCA Northern SportMods. Once the bracket wound down it was the Luellen brothers, Ty and Clinton making the final race. Ty got the better of Clinton off the start and went on to take the win. Clinton finished second with the consolation match giving Kody Havens third and Colby Oberembt fourth.
We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track last night and all season long as well. Special thanks to Michael Walrod/Hawkeye Auto Salvage and Matt Hidlebaugh/FinishLine Body & Paint for donating extra money for the purse. Also big thanks goes to Roberts Construction, Your Floors, Iowa Door, Farm Boy Bodies, five1seven Designs and FinishLine Body & Paint for putting up the money for the SportMod King of the Hill. Please join us next Sunday for Plowman & Stanley Trenching Season Championships. See you then
