September 16th Story/Results Action at the Stuart Speedway in Stuart, Iowa resumed on Sunday, September 16 following the IMCA Supernationals break. David Smith of Lake City, Iowa picked up where he left off in the IMCA Stock Car division, picking up both a heat race win and his second consecutive feature win at the Speedway. Gary Bass of Des Moines led the first 14 laps of the 20-lap main event before being overtaken by point leader Mike Nichols of Harlan and Smith. Nichols held on for second, with Bass a close third. Scott Mineart of Earlham rounded out the top four. Additional heat race winners were Chad Dolin of Gibbon, Nebraska and Jamie Morey of Earlham. Mike Nichols’ second place finish secured him the point championship in the IMCA Stock Cars. The IMCA Hobby Stocks then took to the track for two heat races, with Shannon Anderson of Atlantic and Marcus Fagan of Adair the winners. Anderson made a dominating return visit to victory lane in the main event, with Fagan second, Nate Lange of Menlo third, and Adam Bonnett of Norwalk fourth. The young guns proved to be the ones to beat in the IMCA Sport Mod division. Joel Bushore of Boone and Kevin Sather of Ankeny picked up convincing heat race wins and battled throughout the feature. At the checkers it was Kevin Sather celebrating his 21 st birthday with the win, with Bushore a close second. Joel Thorpe of Urbandale turned in his best performance of the season with a nice third place finish, and Jack Myer of Ankeny fourth. Jimmy May of DeSoto holds a 27-point lead over Damon Frommelt of Boone.Jimmy Gustin of Marshalltown finished off a perfect weekend, picking up his third feature win of the weekend in the IMCA Modifieds. Gustin was the victor on both Friday and Saturday night at the Marshalltown Speedway before capping it off with the Stuart Speedway win. Josh Gilman of Earlham and Bobby Bowman of Winterset were second and third respectively. Ryan Giles of West Des Moines made his first ever trip to the Stuart Speedway a memorable one with a respectable fourth place finish. Heat race winners were Scott Bash of Stuart and Randy Havlik of Waukee. As we head into season championship night on September 23rd, the point battles in the IMCA Hobby Stock and IMCA Modified divisions are still up for grabs. Bryan Snell of Coon Rapids holds a slim four point lead over Shannon Anderson of Atlantic in the Hobby Stocks, with Adam Bonnett of Norwalk knocking on their door, just eight points behind in third. Jimmy Gustin’s feature win catapulted him into the point lead for the IMCA Modifieds, with Rex Parkison a mere 3 points behind. Josh Gilman sits in third, just 9 points out of first. A total of 21 points separates positions 1 through 6.
