September 16th Story/Results

Action at the Stuart Speedway in Stuart, Iowa resumed on Sunday, September 16 following the IMCA Supernationals break.

David Smith of Lake City, Iowa picked up where he left off in the IMCA Stock Car division, picking up both a heat race win and his second consecutive feature win at the Speedway. Gary Bass of Des Moines led the first 14 laps of the 20-lap main event before being overtaken by point leader Mike Nichols of Harlan and Smith. Nichols held on for second, with Bass a close third. Scott Mineart of Earlham rounded out the top four. Additional heat race winners were Chad Dolin of Gibbon, Nebraska and Jamie Morey of Earlham. Mike Nicholsí second place finish secured him the point championship in the IMCA Stock Cars.

The young guns proved to be the ones to beat in the IMCA Sport Mod division. Joel Bushore of Boone and Kevin Sather of Ankeny picked up convincing heat race wins and battled throughout the feature. At the checkers it was Kevin Sather celebrating his 21st birthday with the win, with Bushore a close second. Joel Thorpe of Urbandale turned in his best performance of the season with a nice third place finish, and Jack Myer of Ankeny fourth. Jimmy May of DeSoto holds a 27-point lead over Damon Frommelt of Boone.
