Stuart, IA (August 1) - For the second week in a row mother
nature was kind enough to allow cars to make their way around
Stuart Speedway. Fans and drivers alike enjoyed a gorgeous
Sunday afternoon as Clinton Luellen, Jeremy Gettler, Rex
Parkison, Mike Hansen, Garrett Nelson and Jeff Kruse took home
the trophies. Nelson and Kruse grabbed their third wins, Gettler
his second and Luellen, Parkison and Hansen nabbed win number
one on the year.
One week after almost getting his first ever IMCA Northern
Sportmod win, Clinton Luellen came to town Sunday looking to
sweep the weekend after winning at Boone Saturday night. Once
the green flag waved after two early cautions, Dylan Book looked
like the odds-on favorite to pick up his third win of the year.
Luellen would have none of that, gaining ground every lap until
finally catching Book on lap nine. Luellen would take the lead
on lap ten just before the caution flag waved for the third
time. On the restart Luellen's car didn't take off, allowing
Book to retake the lead. It would not play out in Book's favor,
however, as the caution flag waved yet again before a lap was
completed, giving Luellen his spot back for the next restart.
This time Luellen didn't falter and ran a flawless final five
laps to take home his first win at Stuart. Book would come home
second after a very entertaining back and forth battle with
Jeremy Embrey for the last few laps. Embrey settled for third
with Mike Pruitt fourth and Jamie Schirm fifth. Luellen shaved
Embrey's point lead down to three with the win. Luellen and Book
were the heat winners and Pruitt drove to the trophy dash win.
Veteren Dave Baugh led fourteen IMCA Stock Cars to the
green flag and led lap number one. A quick yellow lined the
field up single file and on the restart Jeremy Gettler swung
wide around Baugh and drove off into the sunset, leading the
last nineteen laps to pick up his second win in a row. While
Gettler completely dominated the field, Brian Blessington worked
his way up to finish second with Bob Daniels third, Jeff
Anderson in his first appearance this year in fourth and Marcus
Fagan rounding out the top five. What was a very tight point
race a few weeks ago is now a sixteen point gap for Blessington
over Josh Daniels. After the race B. Daniels' engine was claimed
and exchanged by Kenny Hansen. Heat winners were Blessington and
Gettler.
Twelve IMCA Modifieds would make the call for the feature
with Scott Bash and Randy Foote sitting out from a hard front
stretch crash in their heat race. Kent Croskey led the first two
laps with Rex Parkison hot on his heels. Parkison would make the
pass on lap three and pull away for four laps before a lap six
caution for a spinning Todd Shute in turn three. When they
returned to racing Jimmy Gustin chased Parkison with Josh Gilman
in tow. This set up one of the most exciting finishes at the
speedway this year! Parkison stayed in the high groove with
Gustin trying the middle and low grooves to no avail. Meanwhile
Gilman was right in the fold as Todd Shute made his way back up
through the field. With three laps to go it was close
racing with all drivers doing an excellent job of giving each
other room as they put on an awesome race for the fans! Parkison
would go on to score the win with Gustin directly behind. Gilman
finished a close third, Shute fourth and visiting driver Jeff
James fifth. Gilman retains the point lead by seven over
Parkison. Heat winners were Randy Havlik and Gustin.
Once again the biggest class with twenty-one cars, the IMCA
Hobby Stocks took to the oval with Charles Belew and Mike Hansen
on the front row. Hansen made it look easy in leading all
fifteen laps in his second race of the year. One yellow flag
slowed the race on lap eight, tightening up the field and making
for some good racing back in the pack. Hansen went on to nab the
feature win with Brandon Pruitt in second, John Watson third,
Nyle Godwin fourth and Curt Ganoe fifth. Pruitt took one point
off the lead of Watson, putting the gap at ten points. Heat
winners were Pruitt, Hansen and Godwin.
The IMCA Sport Compact race was decided before it was over.
Only two cars showed up to race with Garrett Nelson winning the
heat race over David Archibald. In the process, Archibald's car
broke and would have to be parked for the night. That would give
Nelson the feature win. Nelson's win cut Archibald's point lead
to three points.
The last race for the night saw four 6 Cylinder FWD's take
the green flag. Jeff Kruse and Taylor Musselman battled for much
of the race with Kruse taking over the lead for good on lap
five. Kruse went on to notch the win with Musselman second, Jim
Britton third and Christina Powell fourth. Musselman's point
lead is at sixteen points over Britton. The heat race was won by
Musselman.
We hope to see you next week on Adair Lumber Company Night
at the Races. IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Stock Cars, Modifieds,
Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts along with the 6 Cylinder FWD's
will be in action with some close point battles yet to be
determined. Come on out and bring the kids to enjoy some
high-flying, dirt-slinging action!
