2013 Stuart Speedway Season Champions

Story by Josh Reynolds
Stuart, IA (December 29) – The 2013 season at Stuart Speedway came and went in what seems like the blink of an eye, and with that being said the 2014 season will be here before we know it! While we celebrate the holiday season, let us look back on our seven Track Champions for the 2013 season and their excellent seasons.
Andy Forcht collected his second 6 Cylinder FWD track title at SIS with 7 wins, 12 top fives and 12 top tens in 12 starts. His favorite moments from the season were winning double features at Clarke County Speedway and his brother Cory winning the mechanics race the same night, helping out fellow competitors Cory Sauerman and Tanner Gottman and seeing them win their first races, and giving out trophies all season long at SIS. Andy’s favorite race was one at the Iowa State Fairgrounds that he passed the leader coming out of turn four on the last lap to take the win. All of those moments were great, but they were trumped on the first Saturday in September when his good friend and SIS competitor Brandon Pruitt won the Hobby Stock portion of the IMCA Supernationals. Andy would like to thank his brother Cory for making his car look great, and his other brother Chris along with Colton and Garrett Nelson and cousins Chase and Alex Maas for helping out at the track. Next season he will be in the same car racing at SIS and Clarke County Speedway as well as running a few specials and racing with the Iowa Enduro Series.
Sponsors: Seidl Services – Doug Seidl, Modern Motors, Forcht Graphics, Hammer Built/Bath Helpers.com- Shannon Flickinger, Cornfed Customs, Jersey Guys Pizza in Beaverdale.
Shawn Cooney picked up his first IMCA Sport Compact track championship at SIS by posting 8 wins, 13 top fives and 13 top tens in 13 starts. Shawn’s favorite race at Stuart this season was his first win on Father’s Day. His favorite race of the season was when he picked up his first career win at the Fairgrounds. Shawn will be piloting an IMCA Northern Sportmod next season at the Iowa State Fairgrounds and Stuart Speedway with Karl’s Performance coming on board.
Crew: Mike, Briley, Brad and Thomas Egenberger
Sponsors: Casey’s General Stores, May Properties, Watters Autoland, Hawkeye Auto Salvage, Auto Parts on Maury, Sta-Rite Transmission.
Shannon Anderson took home his third IMCA Hobby Stock track title at SIS with 9 wins, 12 top fives and 12 top tens in 13 starts. His favorite moment of the year was winning his 200th career feature at Shelby County Speedway in front of all his friends and family. Shannon also picked up his 17th track title this season. Next year you will find the #78 Victory Chassis at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Fridays, Boone Speedway on Saturdays and Stuart Speedway on Sundays with the occasional trip to Oskaloosa on Wednesdays in search of National Title #5.
Sponsors: Supreme Lawn and Landscape, Karl’s Performance, Victory Chassis, Nutz Graphics, Immel Farms, Mike, Kim and Ally Anderson, Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma Anderson, Sanborn Auto, Supreme Racing Stables, Pippert Trucking, Ed Sorenson.
Clint Luellen got his second IMCA Northern Sportmod track championship in four years in the class at SIS with 1 win, 13 top fives and 14 top tens in 14 starts. Consistency definitely paid off as the top three were only separated by ten points! Clint’s favorite moment at SIS was winning the King of the Hill over his brother. His favorite race of the season was the big dance at the IMCA Supernationals where he started 15th and finished 3rd. Clint has a new chassis for 2014 and plans to have fun racing. He would like to thank all of Luellen Racing’s sponsors for all they do for him.
Crew: Ty and Austin, Luke Thilges, Eric, Spencer, Doug, Don.
Marcus Fagan snagged the IMCA Stock Car track title at SIS, and is one of the first in recent memory to do it without winning a race! 11 top fives and 15 top tens in 15 starts defined the consistency needed to pick up the title, his second at the track. Marcus’ favorite part of 2013 was at the end of the season when the points got tight and they needed to be on their “A” game every night. Marcus wants to thank his crew because without their help he wouldn’t be racing. He is planning on moving up to an IMCA Modified next season.
Crew: Adam Ayers, Mike Culver
Sponsors: Sunds Custom Fencing, Immel Farms, Rumple Farms, Shorts Place, Avey Sanitation, Zipps Pizza, Honey Creek Race Engines.
Josh Gilman picked up his fifth IMCA Modified track title at SIS with 3 wins, 12 top fives and 15 top tens in 15 starts. His favorite race at SIS was the first night he ran a crate. He came from the back to catch Jimmy Gustin, raced side by side for the lead and ended up winning at the finish line. The car wasn’t running right and after checking things out he realized he had the rev limiter set at 5400 instead of 6400! Josh’s favorite moment of 2013 was winning the $1000 feature at the Fairgrounds the night after the Harris Clash. Next season will find the #83G at the Iowa State Fairgrounds weekly and wherever the rest of the weekend takes him. Josh would like to thank his fiancé Ali (who said yes at this year’s racing party in October), Dad & Linda, Mom, sister Jess, and Uncle Mike and Aunt Mary for all their support and encouragement every weekend.
Crew: Thorny, Cory, Jesse, Jeff, Jake.

Last but not least, Todd Cooney took home his second IMCA Late Model Track Championship at SIS in as many years with 3 wins, 4 top fives and 4 top tens in 4 starts. His favorite race at SIS and of 2013 was on Father’s Day when he and his son Shawn both won features at the track. Todd’s plans for 2014 are to race at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Friday and alternate between Stuart Speedway and Vinton when they are racing on Sundays. Along with Shawn, Todd will be welcoming Karl’s Performance on board for 2014.
Crew: Mike & Tom Zuck, Jake Murray, Shawn Palmer, Rick Ford.
Sponsors: Casey’s General Stores, Watters Autoland, May Properties.
