Stuart, IA (July 29) After a week off due to extreme heat, the hot racing action resumed on a warm Sunday evening at Stuart Speedway. Josh May, Jordan Peters, Nick Roberts, Jeremy Gettler, Jimmy Gustin, Brandon Pruitt, Todd Cooney and Andy Forcht visited victory lane on PBM Performance Products Night at the Races.
First up on the track was the MADCRA Mod Lite/Dwarf Car special with Cory Sonner and Randy Bryan on the front row. These cars hadn’t been to Stuart for a couple years and I for one wasn’t disappointed to see them back. These little cars FLY around our track and are pretty fun to watch as well! Sonner would take the top spot for the first three laps until Josh May took over on lap four. A lap five yellow was all that would slow down May, as he held strong at the front with Mike Morrill giving chase. Morrill closed the gap a few times, but it was not to be as May took home the win. Morrill came home second with Sonner third, Joel Huggins fourth and Bryan fifth. Morrill and Bryan were the heat race winners.
Scott Brown and Jordan Peters showed the way next for the IMCA Sport Compacts with Peters getting the jump to lead lap one. Brown and Alex Davis put on an entertaining battle for second, but no one was catching the number 18 as Peters took home the win. Brown came out on top in the battle for second over Davis, Jesse Bramer and Nash Coe. Peters made it a clean sweep with the heat race win.
Next up was the IMCA Northern Sportmods with Matthew Pinegar and Joe Simbro on the front row. Pinegar led the first lap with Simbro moving by to lead the next six. As those two stayed 1-2, ninth starting Nick Roberts was picking his way through traffic, passing Pinegar on lap seven and Simbro to take the lead on lap eight. A couple of quick yellows bunched up the field for a five lap dash to the checkered flag with Roberts showing the way. Cole Ferguson got up to second on lap eleven with Mike Pruitt passing the 3F a lap later. Clint Luellen flew by on the top side on lap thirteen to take over the runner up position and set his sights on Roberts, but the laps ran out as the 23JR took home the win. Luellen finished in second with Dave Schlicht third, Pruitt fourth and Ferguson fifth. Pruitt and Kody Havens were the heat race winners.
Twenty four IMCA Stock Cars came out next with Ben Walding and Derrick Rohe setting the pace. Walding ended up turned around before a lap was completed for the first caution of the race, sending him to the rear of the field. After a complete restart it was Scott Bailey, the new pole sitter, leading with Rohe close behind. Bailey led for twelve laps until eighth starting Jeremy Gettler moved by on lap thirteen. Close behind Gettler was sixteenth starting Jeff Joldersma, and after a lap eighteen caution flew, the field was set for an exciting two lap battle for the win! Gettler held true on the top side with Joldersma fighting hard about a groove lower. As the cars took the white flag, the two held formation through turns one and two, and as the cars went down the backstretch, the crowd came to their feet! Gettler stayed high as Joldersma moved by and slid up in front of him. Coming out of turn four with Joldersma leading, Gettler crossed over and went low, taking the lead at the flag stand and winning by less than a foot! What an exciting finish!! Jamie Schirm crossed in third with Rohe fourth and Bryan Snell fifth. Nyle Godwin, Rohe and Snell were the heat race winners.
IMCA Modifieds were up next with Ron Bash and Ed Seibert on the front row. Seibert led lap one with Scott Bash taking over for the next eleven. Rex Parkison moved by S. Bash on lap thirteen, looking to check out for the win. The wrench in that plan was the #19 of Jimmy Gustin as he found the high side and took over the lead on lap sixteen. Gustin would lead the rest of the way to pick up the win. Josh Gilman snuck by Parkison at the line for second with S. Bash fourth and Shay Woods fifth. Devon Havlik and Woods were the heat race winners.
Lee Farmer and Nathan Lange brought out the IMCA Hobby Stocks next with Farmer leading lap one. Jamie Songer moved up to second on lap two and set up quite a race between the two. Farmer led the first six laps, Songer lap seven, Farmer lap eight, and back to Songer for the next four. Farmer took the lead back on lap thirteen just before a caution came out. Battling behind these two were the point leaders, Brandon Pruitt and John Watson. Once the track was cleared, the cars tightened up for a green-white-checkered, and what a finish it was! Farmer led as they took the white flag, and as has happened so often the last two years, Pruitt set sail on the high side coming out of turn two to pull up beside Farmer. Pruitt drove it in deep in turn three and it stuck, drawing him up beside Farmer coming out of four and ahead by less than a car length to take the win! Farmer finished a disappointing second with Watson third, Songer fourth and Randy Anderson fifth. Watson and Jason Kohl were the heat race winners.
IMCA Late Models came out next with Scott Fitzpatrick and Randy Faux on the front row. Fitzpatrick led the first three laps until Darrell DeFrance moved by on lap four. DeFrance held the top spot through three caution flags, looking poised to pick up the win. That all went away when Todd Cooney showed his muscle on the bottom side of the track to take over the lead on lap sixteen. Cooney would stretch it out and take the win, his fourth in as many starts. DeFrance held on for second over Chad Cooney, Curt Schroeder and Craig Jacobs. Todd and Chad Cooney were the heat race winners.
Scott Brown and Jordan Peters brought out the last race for the evening, the 6 Cylinder FWD’s. Brown led the first two laps until point leader Andy Forcht moved by on lap three. That would be all the excitement in this one as Forcht led the rest of the way for the win. Brown crossed in second with Peters third, Jason Kroeger fourth and Jesse Bramer fifth. Forcht cleaned up, winning the heat race also.
We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track on a muggy Sunday evening. Join us next week for Town & Country Insurance Night at the Races. We will have the first ever Sport Compact Shootout where the winner will take home $225. See you there!
