Pruitt Picks Up First Stock Car Win

Story by Josh Reynolds

Stuart, IA (June 21) – Mother Nature cranked up the heat, but the great racers at Stuart Speedway were up to the challenge on Avey Sanitation Night at the Races. Brandon Pruitt, Jacob Reiter, Kody Havens, Shannon Anderson and Josh Gilman were the big winners for the evening.
IMCA Stock Cars were first to the track with Derrick Rohe and Brandon Pruitt on the front row. Pruitt, the heat race winner, wasted little time in taking the lead over Rohe with Marcus Fagan and Josh Daniels running third and fourth. Fagan got to second on lap two and a caution slowed the field on lap four. Once the green flag flew, so did Pruitt as he went on to lead the rest of the way to his first ever win in the Stock Car class! Fagan finished second with Daniels third, Rohe fourth and Brian Snell rounding out the top five.
Curtis Miller and Randy Rush brought out the IMCA Sport Compacts next with Rush leading over Miller and Jacob Reiter after lap one. Reiter worked past Miller on lap seven and set his sights on Rush. Rush led until the cars came out of turn four on the last lap, but Reiter was stronger to the finish and took the win. Rush finished in a disappointing second with Miller third, Jacob Peters fourth and Jason Kroeger fifth. Rush was the heat race winner.
IMCA Northern SportMods were up next with Colton Nelson and Shawn Cooney on the front row. Kody Havens came through from his third starting spot to take the lead over Cooney and Nelson on lap one. The top three stayed the same until Dusty Masolini got past Nelson on lap six. Masolini continued his charge on lap nine when he moved into second, but Havens held strong at the front. Clint Luellen made his way into the top four on lap nine as well, and passed Cooney for third on lap twelve, but that would be as close as he and Masolini would make it to the top as the caution flag flew after the top four took the white flag. Havens got the win with Masolini second, Luellen third, Cooney fourth and Nelson fifth. Havens and Luellen were the heat race winners.
Matt Tiernan and Gina Greubel brought the IMCA Hobby Stocks out next for their fifteen lap feature and it was Tiernan at the point for the first four laps. Shannon Anderson, who had made it up to second on lap four, wasted no time and took the lead on lap five. Anderson held strong at the front and went on to take his second Father’s Day win in a row at Stuart Speedway. Buck Schafroth finished second with John Watson third, Tiernan fourth and Greubel fifth. Schafroth and Watson were the heat race winners.
IMCA Modifieds were the last class on the Speedway with Ron and Scott Bash on the front row. Scott led the first three laps until Josh Gilman got by on lap four. Gilman would lead with Scott Bash, Todd VanEaton, Cole Ferguson and Nick Roberts putting on a show for second place! Eventually Roberts came out of that battle in second on lap twelve and set out to chase down Gilman. A caution on lap eighteen erased any lead Gilman had and tightened up the field for a green-white-checkered finish. Roberts swung high and low, but couldn’t find the grip he needed as Gilman went on to the win. Roberts took second with Luke Wanninger third, Ferguson fourth and Scott Bash fifth. Roberts and Gilman were the heat race winners.
We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track at our fifth event of the year. Next week will be Adair Lumber Company Night at the Races. We will have the Liquid Nitro Outlaw Mini Mods in addition to our 5 regular IMCA classes and we can’t wait for another great night of side by side racing! See you then!
