Stuart, IA (November 15) – Stuart Speedway had a great 2017 season, and we named our Track Champions at the year-end banquet held on November 4th at the Stuart Rec Center. Below is a summary of each Titlist’s season and their plans for next season.
John Gill was our IMCA Sport Compact Track Champion with 9 wins, 14 top 5’s, 14 top 10’s and a 7 point advantage over Curtis Miller. John’s favorite moment from 2017 was from Season Championship Night when he swept the night by winning the heat, feature, championship and was able to celebrate by doing donuts on the front stretch. His plans for 2018 are to build a new car with a new look while trying for a third championship. John is integral to the Sport Compact class growing at Stuart, and he is very proud of the young talent we have. When asked who he’d like to thank, John said “First and foremost, my wife and biggest fan, Barbara Gill. I am a lucky man. Many, many thanks to Aaron, Cassandra, Dave, Eric, Jody, John, Jon and Jordan. It is tough going it alone and without their support I could not have accomplished my goals. In addition I want to thank and recognize all of the other drivers, whether they raced one night or the whole season at Stuart. We have a great group of competitors that race clean knowing that it is best at the end of the night to drive the car on the trailer, regardless of finishing position. Thanks to Chuck and everyone on the Stuart track team. No better 1/4 mile for Sport Compacts than the high bank clay in Stuart Iowa! (I'm a thankful guy)”. Congratulations, John!
After years of racing, Jamie Schirm snagged his first ever track title in the IMCA Hobby Stock division with 3 wins, 12 top 5’s, 14 top 10’s and a 41 point lead over Korbin Nourse. Jamie’s favorite moment in 2017 came in the middle of the season. “My favorite night didn’t start out well. I got tore up in the heat race. The crew worked hard and got it back together right before the feature. I went out and started 17th and finished 3rd.” His 2018 plans include putting a new body on the car with a different paint scheme and running most of the season at Stuart. “I would like to thank my Mom and Dad, my Brother, my crew: TJ, Jeff, and Kyle, Earl Clayton Auto Racing, Roy Water Outfitters-Eckhart Family, Scott Concrete, Finish Line Body and Paint, Charlie Lenze-Wyffles Hybrids, National Investors-Pat Marks, McAndrews Electric, Ganoe Excavating, Nick Blair Enterprises, Avery Marks Racing, Central Iowa Collision, Schirm Farms, Alley Auto, JS2 Motorsports, Grandma & Ed, Interstate Iron and Penetrator chassis.” Congratulations, Jamie!
In just his third full season in an IMCA Northern SportMod, Chase Rudolf took home the title with 1 win, 12 top 5’s, 14 top 10’s and a 4 point advantage over Austin Luellen. “My favorite moment at Stuart would’ve been us winning the first race of the year, that really set the tone for our season. We don’t have anything set in stone for 2018 but we would like to chase some of the bigger shows and money races! Have to give a huge thanks to my Mom & Dad, Mike Myer, Grandma and Grandpa, Rob and Shelly and all the rest of our family and friends that support us. Also, Bob Harris Enterprises, Fast Shafts, Advanta Clean, Progressive Real Estate, Down Pest Control, Friesen Crates, Lake Country Development, TiLube, RRP Graphics, and Texstar.” Congratulations, Chase!
Marcus Fagan took yet another IMCA Stock Car Championship with 7 wins, 11 top 5’s, 12 top 10’s and a 29 point lead over Josh Daniels. Marcus’ favorite moments included a couple of last lap passes for the win and winning 7 times – his best season ever. 2018 will see him back in the Stock Car class, possibly in a new chassis. “Thanks to my wife Stefany Fagan, my crew: Adam Ayers, Mike Culver and Nick Foster, and to all my fans and sponsors: Rumple Farms, Immel Farms, Avey Sanitation, Sunds Custom Fencing, Adair Dance Academy, Spencer and Brandy Jorgensen and KS Engineering.” Congratulations, Marcus!
Last, but not least, Clint Luellen picked up the IMCA Modified Crown in his rookie season in the class with 3 wins, 14 top 5’s, 14 top 10’s and an 8 point advantage over Josh Gilman. In addition to the Stuart Speedway title, Clint also won track championships at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta and Shelby County Speedway in Harlan. Clint was awarded the IMCA National Rookie of the Year as well as the Iowa State Championship. To say he had a great season is an understatement! His favorite moment of 2017 was picking up his first modified win at Stuart, his career second in the class. Plans for 2018 will see the 3L chasing specials and continuing to have fun, all the while in a new 2018 Razor Elite Modified. “I want to thank Razor Chassis, Wehrs Machine, Friesen Performance, Bob Harris Enterprises, Casey’s General Store, Luellen Farms, Richardson Motorsports, TiLube, Motorsports Warehouse and Zipps Pizzeria.” Congratulations, Clint!
We are very proud to have these 5 drivers represent Stuart Speedway as our Track Champs for 2017 and we know they will be tough to beat in 2018. We hope you have a fun and safe holiday season and we’ll see you in the spring!
